What Is Nearby: Places, Schools and Homes Around a Property

The neighborhood sections on a property page, and their limits.

A house is not just a house — it is a location. Padzilly puts three neighborhood sections on every property page so you can judge the location without opening another website.

What is nearby

This section lists the everyday places around the home and how far away each one is, in miles. Nine categories:

  • Parks

  • Dining

  • Groceries

  • Pharmacies

  • Health — clinics and medical offices

  • Fitness — gyms

  • Banks

  • Libraries

  • Gas — fuel stations

Only the first few are shown. Click View more to see the rest, and View less to fold it back.

There is also a Street view link, so you can see what the street actually looks like instead of guessing from listing photos.

The distances are straight-line distances from the home, not driving time. A grocery store 0.8 miles away might be a five-minute drive or a twenty-minute one depending on the roads.

Nearby schools

Padzilly lists the schools around the home, grouped as Elementary, Middle, High and Private, with a rating for each.

Those ratings come from GreatSchools. They are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average), and they can take in test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data.

Two things to know, and they matter:

A rating is not an enrollment guarantee. Being near a school does not mean a home is zoned for it. School assignment is decided by the district, and boundaries move. If a particular school is the reason you want the house, call the district and confirm the address before you make an offer. Never rely on a listing for this.

A number cannot judge a school for your child. GreatSchools says this themselves, and we agree: visit the schools, look at their programs, and weigh what your own family needs. A 7 with the right program can be a better fit than a 9 without it.

Homes for sale nearby

A map shows other homes for sale within a few miles of the one you are looking at, so you can see what else your money buys on the same streets. It is the fastest way to tell whether a price is normal for the area or out of line with it.

Why this is on the page

Because the three questions every buyer asks after "can I afford it?" are "what is around it?", "what are the schools?" and "what else is for sale near it?" — and having to leave the page to answer them is how people lose an afternoon.
