Possibly. If you co-sign for someone, that debt may count in your DTI calculation. However, if the primary borrower has been making payments independently for a sufficient period, there may be ways to exclude it. Co-signing doesn’t automatically eliminate your ability to buy — but it does require evaluation. Before co-signing anything while planning to purchase, it’s smart to run the numbers first.
